VPK in Sunrise

For age 4 by September 1 — see it for yourself before you decide.

VPK is Florida's free prekindergarten year for eligible four-year-olds. Families usually arrive with two questions: is my child eligible, and what does the year actually look like? We can help you work through the first, and the best way to answer the second is to see it in person.

  • VPK instruction runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
  • The VPK school year runs August through May.
  • VPK instruction itself has no tuition cost.
  • Before and after care is available separately, within the school's 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM day.
  • That before and after care costs an additional $160 per week.

Questions worth asking

What to ask about VPK

  • What does a normal VPK day look like?

Ask what children actually do over the course of a morning, and how much of that stays consistent from day to day.

  • How does the bilingual day work in VPK?

Ask how English and Spanish actually show up across the morning, and what families should understand about that experience.

  • What does before and after care actually look like day to day?

It runs separately from VPK's own hours — ask what a typical drop-off or pickup looks like, and how it connects with the VPK morning.

A day here

What the day usually includes

Not a timetable — young children do not run to one. This is the shape of a normal day.

  1. 01

    Arrival

The day opens at 6:30 AM with arrival and a breakfast period, before the structured part of the day begins.

  2. 02

    A structured day

From around 9:00 AM, each classroom follows its own routine, built around the same core activities: art every day, movement and outdoor time twice a day, and language and math activities once a day.

Questions

About VPK

  • Who is eligible for VPK?

Florida offers VPK to children who are four years old on or before September 1. Eligibility and enrollment are handled by the state and by the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County, not by us — but we can point you to the right starting place. We do run VPK here, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, August through May.

  • Will my child be ready for kindergarten?

We do not promise a specific outcome for an individual child. During your tour, ask us about the Preschool and VPK experience and how families can prepare for the transition to kindergarten.

  • What happens on a tour?

A tour is a chance to see Little Explorers in person, ask questions and get a feel for the school. Requesting a tour does not enroll your child or commit you to anything.

  • What are your hours?

The school is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. VPK has its own instructional schedule within that day — Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, August through May. After School runs Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
